Well today I watched a highly respected local artist give a free oil painting demo. This is Jack Hetterich, he’s 83 years old and paints daily. I wanted to say ouch! ouch! when he finally got up from his seat after being in the same position for 1.5 hours! But he was painting a landscape from memory which is an admirable gift for any artist.
I’m pleased that I’ve finally finished my color charts based on Richard Schmid’s teachings. I have been using color charts since high school. For this reason I am very selective who I want to incorporate into my routine. For this I’m very excited to have accomplished these charts because it took FOREVER! I’m so thankful I don’t have a dog or cat to worry about because I have to lay them all over the place to dry! Pictured here is just a portion of what I did.
Wow…you finished them! They look great! I could never leave stuff like that around with all the animals we have! I am also glad you mentioned Jack… he is an admirable talent and great guy. From memory…wow…!
Hi Erika, when this popped up on DSFDF… I immediately thought “is that Forrest?” I was wondering if anyone would dare to put a second figure… and you did. It’s fantastic to be in a group of artist who can be lighthearted and have a great sense of humor!
Hi Theresa thanks! At first I wanted to make a miniaturized version so it’s not bulky to have for plein air painting and get damaged easily but then I decided to make a bigger one because I was going to mix paints anyway. But GAH taping was the most boring tedious part of it. However I did enjoy the painting part! So glad I did it YAY me!
Hi Alice! It took me a long to figure out how I can feel like I’ve contributed to the photo. Karin had done a wonderful job with hers so for a while I was content to admire it. But then other versions started trickling in and suddenly my creativity was sparked and of Forrest came to mind for some humor! I’m so happy you picked up on it 🙂 Thanks so much for the visit and comment. I admire yours too – so much detail in a small space!
i like it! 🙂 i like your take on the subject.
also, wow the color charts are so much work. good exercise and great future reference for sure!
Glad you like the rendition Dai thank you! Yes those are so worth the effort and will save headache and time in the long run!
YAY-UUUUU!
I know the taping part was a bitch…however, that was the easy part for moi…mixing the paint was the challenge!
Let’s compare charts next wednesday! Bet there is a world of difference with only 5 values!
VickiLouuuuuu Well you will find when you see my charts that I’m not anal with these things lol Well I try to make the values uniform when I remember. But I wasn’t sure if I had to keep adding one color just to accomplish that? I’m really not sure what my object was supposed to be about that subject. And also I kept goofing on my order grrrrr so consider yourself warned lol!
Oh, this brings back memories of these charts. After reading his book I spent perhaps 200 hours doing the charts first in oil then in water color.
I thought I could use them when painting but every color I wanted to match was at least slightly different than any on my charts.
What fortitude! I don’t remember doing nearly that many charts in college! So now that you’ve finished the charts, how do you think you will use them?
onpainting so you know my pain! You mean I could have bought your charts from you??? I actually looked on Ebay if anybody was offering a set lol
Hillary I did one for Don Lagerberg and Tom Holste in college lol And like I said even some in high school. I also did Jan Kunz on my own. I guess looking back I’m glad I was trained to respect the hard work in art preparation.
Well I will use it as a reference closest and most effective color mixes. It’s based on 11 colors and 5 values. As a matter of fact I was thinking today I’d like to do it right one more time OW my head started hurting with that thought!
ohh came from the different strokes site and i have yet to make my paintings for the last 2 weeks hope i can post it today at my art blog..
then found your rendition.. its awesome! i laughed when i run through them and saw yours! thats a great take and i luv forrest gump too!
Atomic thanks! Wow posting all the way from PI how cool is that? I hope you participate in DSDF I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks again for the visit and comment!
